Currently all Olympic athletes that medal in their given events are awarded a cash prize. The cash prize is taxed according to the following table:
$25,000 for gold, $15,000 for silver and $10,000 for bronze
Currently, these prizes are taxed the same as lottery winnings, or casino prizes.
There is a substantial difference between the atheletes who devote their entire lives to reaching the top of their field and a lottery winner. These atheletes are representing our country and their work should be seen as a public service. These people do not win these prizes due to luck, chance, or happenstance; they win due to hard work, dedication, and the drive that comes with bringing their nation pride.
Please repeal any tax on the winnings that accompany an Olympic medal.
