Repeal Article 1, Section 4 of The Texas Constitution that bars atheists from holding public office.

Created by Z.K. on November 15, 2012

The Texas Constitution, Article I, Section 4: No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being.

This is a completely unnecessary and unconstitutional addition to The Texas Constitution. Atheists and non-believers cannot hold public office in Texas because they do not affirm the existence of a "Supreme Being".

This section of The Texas Constitution needs to be immediately amended or removed as it is a direct violation of the separation of church and state and it is a violation of the basic rights of atheists.

I actually live in Iowa, but I cannot stand intolerance anywhere.
