Article VI, Clause 2 of the United States Constitution, known as the Supremacy Clause.

This clause gives the federal government absolute power over any state law.

The federal government should have their own laws regarding international treaties, border protection and security.

State laws should be seperate because they are voted on by the residents of that state.

Americans residents do not directly vote on federal laws.
