The United States has some of the most draconian restrictions on the importation of motor vehicles in the world.
While residents of may other countries enjoy the freedom to import cars and other motor vehicles for personal use virtually without restriction, the reality is that here in America, the land of the free, we are effectively banned from importing motor vehicles less than 25 years old.
The Imported Vehicle Safety Compliance Act of 1988 is the law responsible for ending this right that Americans previously enjoyed. As a result, imported vehicles decreased from 66,900 in 1985 to 300 in 1995.
We believe this law unfairly restricts personal freedoms, hurts American-based small businesses (importers), ultimately hurting the consumer by restricting the available models to chose from.
