The bill abridges the protections guaranteed by people suffering form hate crimes, because being a police officer is a choice, it's a job. Being born LGBT, of an ethnic minority, female, or suffering from a mental disability is not a choice, and those people have been systematically raped, beaten, abused, tortured, and murdered for something they didn't choose. This bill is also an egregious overstepping of laws already in place to punish people for attacking police officers and first responders, and an example of wasteful legislation that is all too common in Louisiana today, and must be put in check.
