Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) does not work. It should be repealed.
It creates a market that hurts free innovation in favor of guided innovation and fails to properly accommodate vehicles that produce no emissions. Additionally, it forces the cost of vehicles to increase over time due to technology the market has not requested and threatens popular vehicles with excessive fines if they fail to meet targets. Ultimately, it hurts the domestic auto industry which uniquely provides heavy duty vehicles that simply aren't available or aren't affordable through foreign manufacturers.
If someone wants a Corvette, like say our Vice President, or a Chrysler SRT8, like our President, they should have the freedom to choose it's lower fuel economy in a free market.
