We urge the President to introduce legislation to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. This law defines marriage as a legal union between 1 man/1 woman and allows states the right to ignore the legal marriages of gay couples from states that allow it. Art. IV, Sec 1, of the Constitution states full faith and credit shall be given in each state to the public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state. The 9th Amend states, the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people. The 10th Amend states, powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution nor prohibited by it to the states are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. The right to marry is retained by the PEOPLE.
