Time and time again, it has been shown that a significant number of citizens in this country cannot accept the fundamental rights of all Americans regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity due to personal or religious beliefs. These beliefs keep many Americans from their fundamental rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Due to the Defense of Marriage Act and the lack of constitutional protection, many American couples are barred from fundamental secular rights granted to other couples. In addition, in several jurisdictions, it is okay for people to be discriminated against in a variety of sectors because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. President Obama, please take action and make due on your previous promise that things will get better.
