The repeal of DADT was a huge gain in civil rights for gay and lesbian members of the military. Despite DADT being repealed, the same sex spouse of a military member is not allowed the benefits as spouses of the opposite sex of the said military member. This makes it extremely difficult for living situations, health care, and other benefits spouses of the military members of the same are denied, yet heterosexual couples enjoy. The repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), would allow same sex families in the military to receive all of the benefits that they have a right to. We, the undersigned, petition for the repeal of DOMA, on the grounds for equal benefits for same-sex military couples, that opposite-sex military couples, currently receive.
