In 1988, a successful Congressional lobbying effort, brought forth by Mercedes-Benz and their corporate affiliates, ended the grey-market vehicles imported into the United States. At the time, no evidence was brought forth that solidified that grey-market imports were sub-par in safety regulations as well as emissions at the time. Furthermore there are allegations of improper lobbying during this event. Both of these have never been brought before a court. Nowhere in the bill, Public Act 100-562, does it state that the government can confiscate and crush vehicles imported into the United States. In light of this, we the people, would like this policy removed and banned or even lifted, even if reduced to 15 years would be more acceptable than the current 25 years listed.
