The Electoral College is an outdated system, that no longer benefits the American electoral process, but rather has become a hindrance to an effective political election. With the election of Donald Trump, to be the nation’s 45th president, a more increasingly prevalent problem has once again arisen. While Donald Trump legitimately won the electoral vote, he did so without holding the popular vote. This is the 5th time in United State’s history this has happened, and the 2nd time in the last 16 years (1824; 1876; 1888, 2000, 2016). It is an outrage that 11% of the nation’s president’s have not been the most popular choice of those who voted. Certain practices must be relinquished in order to continue an effective representation of the people of the United States.
