The Electoral College was originally designed because the framers of the Constitution believed that we the people were too stupid to elect a President by popular vote. They were afraid we would elect a moron for President. This is absurd today, and our democracy would be better served by deciding the Presidency by popular vote only. There are also too many attempts by the minority Party to manipulate the Electoral College, and gerrymander congressional districts so that only their Party could win. We are also the only democracy in the world to have such a mechanism to pick our leader.
