Gerrymandering is a long-practiced technique in many states where the political party in power will draw voting district lines to give it the advantage in future elections.
Whether done by Republicans or Democrats, this practice undermines democracy and the people's voice in elections.
In 2011, Texas was re-districted by the Republican Party which won many seats in the state legislature in the 2010 elections. The leaders of the GOP re-drew Texas' district lines to make it nearly impossible for even moderately Democratic districts to seat a Democratic candidate.
This unfair advantage needs to stop and federal intervention is needed to end it immediately. Re-districting should be based on population distribution only, not political preference, class, race or any other factor.
