repeal the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000.

Created by L.A. on June 23, 2013

There are two laws that many people have linked to causing the Great Recession: The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. These laws turned over the Glass-Steagal Act, a law passed after the Depression to prevent banks from making risky investments, and banned any regulation of derivatives outright. This less to the housing bubble of 2001, which burst in 2008, sending the world economy into recession. While there are many causes of the Recession, these two laws allowed them to take place. Repeal them both.
