Two laws are commonly thought of as the forerunners to what led to the Great Recession: Gramm-Leach-Bliley and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. These laws overturned the Glass-Steagal Act, which was formed after the Depression to prevent banks from making risky investments and banned the regulation of derivatives, which make it possible for banks to gamble on anything, respectively. We call for the repealing of these laws.
