The Healthy and Hunger Free Act of 2010 sought to fight childhood obesity & end childhood hunger but has fallen far short of its goals.
Instead, by establishing minimum and maximum limits on caloric intake, this act has only exacerbated these issues.
As millions of school age students leave school everyday they are being driven by their hunger into the arms of the fast food industry or to convenience stores to buy high calorie foods. Its those empty calories that contribute to the obesity issue.
Also, for too many students, the school lunch they receive is the ONLY meal that they receive. Has childhood hunger been ended when children across the United States go home hungry?
I would like the USDA to rewrite the specifics of this act to ensure that it is able to meet its original goals.
