Repeal the "Hughes" Amendment And Lift the Ban on Civilian Ownership of Machine Guns Manufactured after 1986

Created by J.A. on November 12, 2012

We the people request that you repeal the so called "Hughes" Amendment of Public Law 99-308. The Firearm Owners Protection Act.

The Hughes Amendment bans a civilian from ownership or transfer rights of any fully automatic weapon which was not registered as of May 19, 1986. The amendment also held that any such weapon manufactured and registered before the May 19 cutoff date could still be legally owned and transferred by civilians.

All this amendment has done is drive up the price on these firearms, allowing some to monopolize the industry. There is a very strong market for such firearms with collectors and hobby shooters. Lifting such a ban would help to invigorate the economy and prove to the world that we really are a nation that believes in freedom.
