The Hughes Amendment has stood as a slap in the face to firearm owners since 1986 when it was passed by a highly contested voice vote in the US Senate. It bans legal American citizens from registering (through an already arduous and extremely expensive process) new, civilian transferable machine guns, and has obviously done a wonderful job of stopping any criminal from ever getting their hands on a machine gun in the US.
What I'm proposing isn't opening up the floodgates to allow everyone to walk into Walmart and buy a machine gun, but I do believe that any automatic weapon that would be classified as a Curio and Relic if not previously destroyed by the ATF should be allowed to be registered under the NFA by legal American citizens as a newly made civilian transferable machine gun.
