The Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandates that each applicable individual shall for each month beginning after 2013, ensure that the individual, and any dependent of the individual who is an applicable individual, is covered under minimum essential coverage for such month. This mandate to maintain health insurance applies to all individuals except foreign nationals residing here unlawfully, incarcerated individuals, and individuals falling within two narrow religious exemptions. A covered individual who fails to comply with the mandate is subject to a financial ―penalty enforceable by the IRS. (Yeah, those fine folks caught up in scandals, unwilling to testify, given paid leaves for targeting, and other worthy attributes...yeah.....them)
