Repeal the Internal Revenue Code Limiting Itemized Medical Deductions

Created by M.B. on February 18, 2014

The Affordable Health Care Act (AHCA) requires taxpayers to subsidize individuals that cannot afford their own health care costs. This has caused an irretrievable financial burden on taxpayers at their own individual income tax reporting level. Adding to this substantial new burden are the existing limits to medical expense deductions as specified in 26 U.S.C. 213(a). Therefore, We the people petition that the tax code be changed to reflect a direct and full deduction for medical expenses that are itemized on the federal personal income tax form. Currently, medical expenses can only be deducted when they "exceed 10 percent of adjusted gross income." This 10% ceiling is to be struck from the code and fully and absolutely repealed forthwith, effective from the year the AHCA became law.
