Student loans are an 'easy' way to pay for college when you begin to attend. They are easily obtained, just sign your name on the loan agreement, and pick up your money. Student loans are sometimes impossible to pay after graduation. They become a burden to graduates when they do/can not get a job in their degree field, can not get a job that pays enough to simply live, or have health problems. Student loans are backed by the government and are a safe bet for banks and corporations like Sallie Mae to issue. There is a law that makes it impossible to file bankruptcy on them.
The law prohibiting student loans from being discharged in bankruptcy should be repealed. The law is a no win situation. If it wasn’t so easy to obtain student loans, students would find other means to attend college.
