The Energy Policy Act of 2005 allows companies to use hydraulic fracturing, also known as "fracking" without following standards in set in the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Safe Drinking Water Act. This can result in hazardous chemicals being released into watersheds that people depend on, as well as into the air we breath.
Most gas drilling is taking place in farming regions where this water is used to grow the foods we eat. Pollution in these regions could have detrimental health effects on people far away from the source. As such, restrictions should be placed on these industries, and they should not be exempt for the same standards everyone else must abide by.
