It circumvents Russia's inherent sovereign and indigenous democratic processes. Congress and the Obama Administration must consider its obligations to the World Trade Organization, i.e, its commitment to foster sound economic ties with global trade partners.The Act violates the sacred principle of self-determination, democratic integrity and the right of nations to self-govern without meddling from other entities. The Magnitsky Act was promoted by Hermitage Capital Management and its presentation of events are not in line with the facts of the case. Indeed, facts are in dispute, thus, human rights angle is inappropriate. The Magnitsky Act makes Russia vulnerable to frivolous claims, violates the spirit of the WTO, and hampers U.S-Russia economic relations. Repeal the Magnitsky Act.
