On May 25th, the House of Representatives passed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act of 2014 prohibiting the use of the UN's reports on climate change and placing othe restrictions in the Dept. of Defense's plans related to climate change.
Climate change is a very real and significant threat not only to the environment, but to the nation's foreign policy, as conflicts rise from water scarcity, sea levels rise impacting naval bases, and etc., and implementing such an amendment would only serve to hinder the nation's defenses. Republicans claim that climate change, even without anthropogenic origins, is solely a political issue. It is not. Its impact on defense is unambiguous and pervasive.
