The NFA and the Hughes amendment of the FOPA infringe upon the second amendment rights of all law abiding American citizens. The NFA restriction on short barreled rifles and shotguns is ridiculous considering the items can be obtained legally by simply removing a component such as a stock or marking it to fire a handgun caliber. If someone has passed a background check to buy a firearm in the first place, they shouldn't be subjected to another check, more tax, and a longer waiting period. The Hughes amendment ban on fully automatic firearms accomplishes nothing but driving up the price on preexisting items and eliminates the incentive for manufacturers to come up with new products and designs.
