The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 holds 10% of states' federal highway apportionment for ransom if the do not raise their minimum drinking age to 21. 18 year old citizens can buy a house, adopt a child, and be killed in the defense of their country but can not purchase or consume an alcoholic beverage. 21 is the highest drinking age in the world and must be changed. Many scholars agree that the law needs to be changed and that it has caused adults aged 18-21 to die of alcohol poisoning due to fear of getting in trouble. Repealing this law will make alcohol seem less like a forbidden fruit to young adults but an aspect of adulthood. Please help repeal this draconian law that blackmails states using tax dollars and federal assistance.
