Repeal the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984

Created by A.C. on August 18, 2013

This petition asks the government of the United States of America to repeal the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984, WITHOUT reducing highway federal funding. The National Drinking Age Act of 1984 is somewhat useless, as studies have shown that large numbers of people under 21 partake in illegal purchase, possession, and consumption of alcohol which in turn result in bigger problems. The current Act also prevents economical growth as it prohibits those under 21 from purchasing alcohol anywhere in the US. The current age minimum to buy marijuana (where legal) is 18, a drug which has "similar" effects or if not stronger effects than alcohol. For these reasons, we ask that the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 be repealed and that the new drinking age limit is set to 18 or 19.
