At age 18, Americans are expected to register for the draft, choose civic leaders, pay applicable taxes, be tried as an adult, and fulfill all legal adult responsibilities. It is unfair and insulting that 18, 19, and 20 year old adults are doubly denied many adult privileges, one of which is drinking alcohol.
The claimed statistical declines in drunk driving deaths due to a 21 drinking age began before the passage of the act. A drop in traffic fatalities also occured in other nations with lower drinking ages. This is mostly due to education efforts and stricter enforcement of DUI laws.
The NMDAA blackmailed states into raising their drinking age or face loss of highway funds, insulting the American tradition of federalism and restricting personal rights. Repeal today!
