Repeal the National Minimum Drinking Age Act and allow states to determine their drinking age

Created by A.G. on November 13, 2012

The National Minimum Drinking Age dictates that any state with a minimum drinking age below 21 will be subjected to a decrease in their federal highway apportionment. This draconian policy decreases the autonomy of state and local governments by imposing a one-size-fits-all rule for the regulation of alcoholic beverage consumption. It is unfair to tax the citizens of a state and then inform them that if they do not change their state laws they will not be able to get the money back. Many have questioned the merits of such a high drinking age, and if the majority in any particular state wishes to lower it, they should be free to do so without federal interference in their lives.
