Local police departments who are recipients of Federal grants are given incentives to arrest people. Many people are being arrested on bogus charges in the name of profit.
Our request:
1. Make it illegal to form private prisons; these entities have a clear incentive to keep the prisons populated by all means necessary.
2. Do not send people to jail for marijuana use, rather charge a $ fine ever-time it is proven that a person has been tested positive. Testing will eliminate police officers from falsely arresting for bogus charges. If the test proves that marijuana is in the accused blood, that person would be responsible for paying the fine and the cost of the drug test. If the results of the test are negative, the police department would be responsible for covering the cost of the test.
