North Carolina's amendment one is a ban on same-sex marriages as well as unions and private contracts. This amendment violates the Full Faith and Credit Clause which states that "States within the United States must respect the public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state." It also violates the 14th amendment guaranteeing "individuals in similar states shall be treated equally by the law." This amendment takes away equal rights under the law, especially with the issue of taxes, and refuses to acknowledge any unions from other states. Therefore, it is in the best interest of the State and its people to repeal the first amendment to the North Carolina constitution.
