This petition is on behalf of my brother, Marlon J. Spikes, and every Black male/female, who has been sentenced unfairly, and is presently serving over twice the sentence that should have been imposed. I sat in a federal court in Akron, OH, in 2011, and listened to the federal judge state the following, “ My hands are tied and I have no discretion to lower your sentence, based on Reagan’s’ 1986 Drug Act, aka the ‘Anti – Drug Abuse Act of 1986.” The judge held her head in her hands, and reluctantly sentenced my brother to 11.5 years, when his sentence warranted at least a 50% reduction. I pray that you sign this petition in order that my brother and all the other men and women who have experienced disparities in their sentencing, be granted justice, by imposing a sentence that is just.
