Repeal parts of the Firearm Owners Protection Act that unconstitutionally creates a De facto ban of certain firearms

Created by A.M. on February 24, 2014

The purpose of this petition is to propose a revision of the 1986 Firearm Owners Protection Act. The key revision would be to remove the date restriction that was put in place that grossly restricts the individual civilian transfer and ownership of certain firearms manufactured and registered after May 19, 1986. Essentially this has created a De facto ban of certain firearms, which is unconstitutional. Because of the artificially created rarity of these guns it has made them cost prohibitive for the average person to own and has insured that eventually these firearms will be nearly gone due to the wearing out of the relatively few in circulation.
