Signed in 1992, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act limits sports betting to the FOUR states that had sports betting infrastructure codified into law at the time. This gives a baseless monopoly to those four states (especially Nevada) on what has grown into a billion dollar industry. With economic times tough across the country, a potential avenue to generate voluntary revenue is flatly and arbitrarily denied to 46 states and their adult citizens. Rather than funneling voluntary tax dollars into state coffers, this prohibition funnels money into an illicit underground economy.
Under common sense and the umbrella of the 10th Amendment to the United States Constitution which protects states' rights, this act, or at least the sports betting portion must be repealed.
