This petition calls for the repeal of the USA Patriot act and prohibiting the United States government from seizing phone records or otherwise spying or conducting surveillance on American citizens without probable cause.
This action is necessary in light of revelations that the U.S. has been requiring Verizon Wireless and likely other cell phone companies to surrender all phone records to the government. This creates a situation where the government could collect information about the private lives of citizens that could make them vulnerable to blackmail or intimidation and clearly violates the 4th Amendment's protections of citizens against unreasonable searches and seizures.
