It is time to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act [15 U.S.C. Chapter 105], passed in 2005, which took away the rights of American citizens to bring suit against the manufacturers of firearms for the damage caused by the products they manufacture.
Tort law is one of the most important ways that private citizens can hold corporations accountable for their behavior. Firearms manufacturers currently enjoy complete immunity from lawsuits by American citizens seeking to make these corporations account for the damage caused by their products. No other industry enjoys such blanket immunity from liability for their products, and this is unacceptable.
This law should be repealed, so that gun manufacturers can be held accountable for the harm their products cause.
