Repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, so that Gun makers can be held to consumer safety standards.

In 2005, Congress passed and President George W. Bush signed the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which immunizes gun makers against lawsuits resulting from 'misuse' of the products.This law invariably causes firearm makers to not invest in consumer protections for the use of firearms. Repeal of this act would encourage firearm manufacturers to start developing trigger safety technologies and other methods so that firearms can be used safely only by the individuals who were registered to use them. Many tragedies involving handguns happen as a result of someone other than the registered owner using the weapon. Investment in these technologies would reduces fatalities dramatically.
