The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act was signed into law in 2005 by President George W. Bush.
The purpose of the act is to prevent firearms manufacturers and dealers from being held liable for crimes committed with their products. The final bill passed after the assault weapons ban renewal had been prevented from being added onto the bill.
This petition seeks to repeal this law, in order to hold weapons manufacturers and dealers once again liable for the deaths and injuries their products incur, much in the same way that tobacco companies are held liable for their products. By repealing this law, individuals could once again sue gun makers.
