Every year, millions of dollars of tax breaks are given to religions organizations. This includes the mega churches who have millions of dollars in tax free income per year. The money we could save from tax breaks could open schools, hospitals and other facilities and services that are being cut due to deficit, where the majority of people would rather see their hard earned money go.
The 1st amendment states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"; however these tax breaks are aiding these organizations to establish and thrive. People should have their freedom to practice, but why should others, who may have no interest or belief in religion(s) have to pay the price daily?
