Repeal the Second Amendment

Created by C.K. on December 15, 2012

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

This Amendment, since its inception, is perhaps the most misunderstood, misused and misinterpreted Amendment in the Bill of Rights. The "right" of the average US citizen to keep and bear arms is misguided.
The text speaks for itself. "A well regulated militia" back in the time period certainly meant that average citizens had to defend themselves on the frontier as the Union expanded and the colonies had no Federal standing army. Today, this is not so. The "militia", in my mind, is the individual States National Guard. They are citizen soldier charged with the protection and well-being of their respective States.
