The single biggest obstacle to sane and rational firearm legislation in America is the Second Amendment. It is based on the faulty, outmoded, and undemocratic premise that people with guns can and should be able to influence the government outside of the democratic process. More fundamentally, thousands of Americans die of gun violence every year because the government is prevented by the Second Amendment from banning the sale, ownership, importation, and manufacture of personal firearms for civilian use.
We the undersigned are aware that the President cannot repeal Amendments to the Constitution. However, we want him to support this Amendment and lead a process of fundamental reform on this issue.
