The second amendment to the constitution was written in the 18th century in a new country remembering the religious strife of England in the 17th century. The second amendment is essentially reserving a right to equip oneself to change one's mind and commit treason against the United States Government. After over 200 years of the american experiment in democracy it is time to decide if one is a patriot or not. Anyone who has ever taken the Pledge of Allegiance should not need the second amendment. The modern era has many examples of non-violent government change, the end of colonial India, reunification of Germany, end of apartheid in Africa that went well and many examples of violent change which went badly. The second amendment is an anachronism.
