Repeal the Second Amendment so we can have an intelligent discussion on gun control.

Created by A.S. on December 27, 2012

When the Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791, it was "necessary to the security of a free State" that "a well regulated Militia" had "the right ... to keep and bear Arms." Today, however, such a right - originally restricted to the militia (or "people" as a group) - is unnecessary and dangerous to the well-being of a free society. Indeed the right to bear arms threatens the very liberties that gun advocates profess to uphold, namely, Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. We challenge gun advocates to provide proof of the Second Amendment's effectiveness in ensuring American liberties in the 21st century, to produce evidence that outweighs the roughly 30,000 deaths that occur annually due to gun violence. If the proof is insufficient, the Second Amendment should be repealed.
