The Second Amendment to the Constitution, which states that "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed," must be repealed.
Long gone are the days of sovereign states rounding up minutemen with muskets to shoot Indians or protect livestock. No Founder anticipated high-capacity magazines or military-grade assault weapons, products designed to kill many people very quickly, populating the civilian marketplace.
Say what you will about mental health treatment or a culture that embraces violence; as long as owning guns is a universal right instead of an earned privilege, dangerous weapons will reach the wrong people and innocents will continue to die.
So get rid of that right. Let each state either come up with a strict process for licensing or ban guns altogether.
