The Tiahrt Amendment prevents the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) from releasing gun crime data to law enforcement and the public. The provision, a rider on appropriations bills introduced in response to lobbying efforts from the National Rifle Association (NRA), muzzle valuable information that could assist law enforcement, public health and public policy efforts. Repeal is supported by ProtectPolice.com and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
