The High Court of Hong Kong has just handed down the judgement which disqualifies 2 Legislative Council members (LegCo) after the Standing Committee of the National Peoples Congress (NPCSC) of China interpreted the Article 104 of the Basic Law, the mini-Constitution of Hong Kong.
The act by Beijing authorities to intervene the internal affairs of Hong Kong is an explicit violation to the article 22 of the Basic Law. It is believed that the disqualification ruled by Beijing and reinforced by the judiciary of Hong Kong, demonstrates that Hong Kong is no longer enjoying autonomy anticipated by the US when the Act is drafted.
The US president should repeal the act, or to change the way the laws are applied as Hong Kong become less autonomous is certain.
