Our current tax forms contain a checkbox that allows us to donate $5 to presidential campaigns. This apparently does NOT increase the amount of tax we owe. Why not put this magic $5 donation towards our debt for the next few years. In fact, I think if the government were to include a space on the tax forms that would allow us to pencil in the amount that we would like to put towards paying down our national debt, they would be surprised at how many Americans would step up and give 20 bucks.
