We do not believe that the President in charge of the Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears should be celebrated as the face of the $20 bill. His heinous acts forced the removal of at least 46,000 Native Americans including Cherokees, Choctaws, Muscogee-Creeks, Chickasaws, and Seminoles of their ancestral lands and many of whom died as a result. It is an embarrassing and dark stain on the pages of United States history.
There are many others that are American Heroes who would make far better options: Martin Luther King Jr., Theodore Roosevelt, Davy Crockett, Harriet Tubman, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Jonas Salk, Frederick Douglass, the Wright Brothers, and Albert Einstein.
