Replace Columbus Day with Bartolomé Day because Christopher Columbus was a horrible person.

Created by S.L. on October 29, 2013

Columbus is not the "brave explorer who sailed across the Atlantic, found the New World, and proved that the earth was round", as he is often purported to be.

It was a well known fact that the earth was round before Columbus was even born, and there were natives living in the "New World" 14,000 years before Columbus set sail. But more importantly, Columbus used the natives as sex slaves, slaughtered them in his quest for gold, hunted them for sport, and killed 3-5 million with disease and starvation resulting from his arrival.

Yet this mass murderer and champion of sociopathic imperialism has his own holiday! Thus, I propose we replace Columbus Day with Bartolomé Day, in honor of one of the first advocates for universal human rights.
