Replace Columbus Day with National Election Day

Created by L.C. on September 08, 2016

Columbus discovered America...at least that's what we've been taught in school. Of course we know Columbus did not "discover" America and in fact, was complicit in spearheading slave trade and genocide. So isn't it time we stopped celebrating Columbus Day? Let's replace one national holiday with another. Instead of observing Columbus Day in October, make election day a national holiday in November and make election day a Monday. The only reason election day is held on Tuesdays is because in 1845 folks needed time to travel to the county seat by horseback to vote (seriously, look it up). Our voting laws should reflect the 21st century, not the 19th. It is in every citizen's best interest to make voting in America easier.
